The Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick along with the Governor of Abia State, Ipeazu, has asked the Super Eagles to take their defeat by Madagascar with philosophical calmness and brace up with greater challenges ahead.
The NFF chieftain led the governor to the locker room of the Super Eagles after the Sunday evening loss to Madagascar and told the players to “take the defeat as a wake up call to bounce back and return to winning ways”.
He told the players of the exploits of their 2013 predecessors who were at the brink of elimination in the third match of the group stage.
“The team was just 10 minutes from imminent elimination when they scored two goals against Ethiopia to get to the quarter-finals”, Pinnick told the players.
He recalled that the team was almost topping the group when the goals started coming and that the headship of the group would have offered them ‘softer’ quarterfinals opponents.
At the tournament, the Ivoriens were the overwhelming favourites to win the cup. Yet, the Super Eagles surmounted them and got onto winning ways to eventually win the cup.
He told the players that their allowances up to the final match have been made available and that the players should brace up as their destinies are in their hands.
