The member representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chris Azubogu, has given business startup kits to 120 graduates after they had been trained.
The benefiting graduates were trained at the National Engineering Design Development Centre (NEDDI) at Nnewi, Anambra State.
In his speech during the graduation of the graduate trainees, Azubogu said that he was trying to lay a foundation for the institute where graduates can be trained to become employers of labour and not just job seekers.
The lawmaker noted that the centre was set up by the federal government to train the youths of the state because they are enterprising people.
He urged the institute to continue to empower NEDDI to carry out its constitutional duties.
Azubogu empowered the graduate trainees with seed money to start up their small-scale businesses and urged them to set up a cooperative society so that they can take advantage of loans provided by Bank of Industry (BoI) and other agencies.
The lawmaker said that the trainees have better opportunities of getting to the top if they fully utilized the seed money and their trainings.
He tasked the trainees to fully utilize the training they were given at NEDDI and as well aspire to improve their knowledge because education gathering is a continuous process.
Azubogu commended the traditional rulers in his constituency for their support for him, which he noted has translated into getting a land for a place for industrial park in his area.
Speaking at event, the traditional ruler of Nnewi, Igwe KON Orizu 111, commended the lawmaker for giving his constituency a quality, responsible and responsive representation in the National Assembly.
Igwe Orizu also charged the graduands to make good use of their trainings and do the lawmaker proud.
Earlier, the Managing Director of NEDDI, Dr. Arinze Nwosu, thanked the lawmaker for giving the institute the privilege of carrying out their constitutional mandate to input engineering design principles into the operation of Small and Medium Enterprises.
He noted that the skills acquired by the trainees is enough to successfully start up their own businesses and manage both human and financial resources effectively and that the one hundred and twenty trainees have been given in depth technical know-how in ICT, Electrical/Electronic package, Engineering Design package and Financial Management.
A beneficiary, who identified himself as Cassidy, thanked the lawmaker for his intervention, which according to him is divine.
