The agrarian Nando Community in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra state has been in chaos over some groups’ false allegation of illegal sale of Abube-Agu village lands by the President-General (PG) of the community, Mr Ignatius Aghadinuno to the Fulani herdsmen or other persons.
Consequently, a group of persons who claim to be close to the state government is already collecting a list of names which they claim they will substitute to the PG and his executives and install a caretaker committee.
The crisis, which would have thrown the community into perpetual anarchy and chaos, was however resolved in favour of the President-General by the traditional ruler, Igwe Nnaba Aghaeze, the town regent, Igwe Chinedu Nwakonuche and chairmen of various villages in a meeting at the Igwe’s Palace at the weekend.
A resolution at the end of the meeting signed by the monarch, members of Igwe-In-Council and chairmen of the eight villages in Nando the community was made available to newsmen in Awka on Sunday.
The communicated said the allegation a were fabrication of individuals and group from Abube Agu where the President General hailed from wanted to undue him and impose their selfish will on the entire Nando community.
According to them, the President-General is not in any way indicted in the crisis going on in Abube village and therefore innocent of all allegations emanating there from.
“That our President-General and his executive are doing very well and we are solidly behind their leadership and are committed to their course.
“That we are neither in support of corruption or social vices of any kind, rather, henceforth anybody with any form of grievances whatsoever whether against the President-General or any of the union executives should come and confront the person with such allegation for direct clarifications instead of arbitrary actions,’’ it stated.
It added that the geneses of the crisis started when it was brought to the notice of the Igwe-In-Council that there was a crisis in Abube-Agu, one of the villages in Nando where the President-General comes from.
“Shortly afterwards an oral petition was lodged at the Igwe’s palace against the PG by the Ojiana age group with an allegation that the PG was involved in series of illegal sale of Abube-Agu village land in connivance with some people.
It noted it was discovered at the end of deliberations by the Igwe-In-Council that the PG was completely innocent of all the allegations.
“It was discovered that the Ojiana age group of Abube-Agu (same petitioners) were the ones who sold a large portion of land and used the money for their personal needs.
“When they refused to render accounts of the proceeds to the village leadership, crisis ensued between their village union chairman and them.
“In its ruling delivered on July 16, 2019, the Igwe-In-Council exonerated the PG who was not mentioned at all in all the accounts by the affected parties.
“it was later discovered that the decision so taken on that day did not go down well with some big men Abube-Agu village and therefore they are still bent on dealing with the PG,’’ it noted.
Meanwhile unconfirmed reports has it that the elements fanning the embers of confusion in the peaceful town on Saturday purportedly came with documents which they claimed was from the state government and announced the removal of the Aghadinuno-led exco.
The source said uncertainty now envelopes the town over the development.
