A scanty and mild Ashura procession was staged by members of the Islamic movement of Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shiites,the Tuesday procession was staged by mostly women with black attire.
The procession was truncated by the Nigerian police Kebbi state command at the total round about in Birnin Kebbi,some arrest were made but the police image maker DSP Nafiu Abdullahi said was not aware of the arrest but promised to call back when he finds out, minutes later a second call was made to him which he didn’t answer,our source confirmed to us arrest were made.
Recalled that Nigerian police had issued warning to all Shiites members across the country not to hold Ashura procession.
Ashura is an annual event marked every year by members of Shiites sect to mourn the death of their spiritual leader Imam Hussain who they alleged was murdered by sunni Muslims centuries ago,therefore when the year comes round they hold procession to mark the day and mourn him,in some countries where Shiites are in the majority there is a place set aside where members across the globe comes to mark the day,unlike other states in the country Ashura procession was relatively peaceful in Kebbi as no one was hurt.
