A Senator representing Anambra South on the platform of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, Ifeanyi Ubah, on Wednesday, said Tuesday’s verbal exchange between the Minister of State for Labour, Festus Keyamo, and the National Assembly was nothing but a display of “rascality of the highest order” by the Minister.
Speaking with reporters at the close of Wednesday’s plenary on his motion to mark this year’s International Day of Parliamentarianism, Ubah said parliaments across the world are easily misunderstood.
He made reference to the outburst of Keyamo on lawmakers when he appeared before the National Joint Committee on Labour over the Federal Government planned recruitment of 774,000 workers across the country.
Ubah, who is a member of the Senate Committee on Media, scolded Keyamo’s action; describing it as completely uncalled for, especially from an appointee of the Executive arm of government who is not even the substantive-minister against the elected representatives of the people.
Keyamo on Tuesday accused the lawmakers of trying to hijack and take control of the recruitment exercise despite being granted 15% of the slots.
The lawmakers have denied this claim. Visibly angry Ubah said the Joint Committee of the National Assembly did nothing out of place to know how the job exercise meant for citizens was being conducted as elected representatives of the people.
