The Vice-Chancellor of Precious CornerStone University (PCU), Ibadan, Oyo State, Professor Julius Oloke, on Thursday, September 3, 2020, paid a working visit to Covenant University, intending to foster a working relationship with the nation’s best private university.
Professor Oloke appreciated the Management of Covenant for availing his team the opportunity to visit at a very significant and crucial time as this, taking into account the prevailing circumstances globally. He highlighted the numerous research work that had gone into the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic, treatment of infertility, and other upcoming research work.
He posited that the existing relationship between the proprietor-base of both universities should necessitate the establishment of a working relationship cutting across joint research initiative, staff exchange programme, and admission processing. He reckoned that these would help PCU leverage on the strength of Covenant in rising to the top and at the same time emerge a force in the education landscape of the nation and Africa.
Professor Oloke, a microbiology and biotechnology professor, said PCU had been able to accomplish certain feats in medical research work, and there was a need to collaborate with an institution of Covenant’s stature towards hitting the limelight. “We are here to initiate a collaboration with Covenant University, and we hope that this visit will result in us coming up with a memorandum of understanding, which will speedily birth a relationship between our two universities,” he added.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Akan Williams, said he was impressed with the level of research work PCU has initiated in the battle against Covid-19. He highlighted the readiness of the relevant Covenant University’s research clusters to partner with PCU to advance a working relationship.
The Secretary, Board of Regents, Covenant University, Pastor Chioma Okwuanyi, commended PCU for working towards advancing solutions to healthcare issues in the country, instead of lamenting failures. He noted that Covenant was open to constructive partnership, and the board would be committed to advancing any such association.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor AAA. Atayero said that the visit was coming at a most auspicious moment, with Covenant in a most excellent position to partner with like-minded organizations to provide globally relevant solutions to humanity.
Professor Atayero stated that since Covenant and PCU both share the God factor’s ideals and values, both institutions must enter into a partnership. According to him, the intended partnership would likely be the beginning of good things to come, taking into account the unique advantage the spirituality content availed both universities.
The meeting also had in attendance the Registrar, Covenant University, Dr Oluwasegun Omidiora, the wife of the visiting Vice-Chancellor, Mrs Oloke, and members of the PCU media team.
