Following the directives from the umbrella body of the Nigeria labour congress (NLC) and the trade unions congress (TUC) the Kebbi state organised labour under the leadership of comrade Umar Halidu Alhassan Friday convened extra ordinary state secretariat meeting at the labour in Birnin Kebbi.

The meeting had in attendance all labour affliates in the state ie the trade unions congress, health workers union, National association of nigerian nurses and midwives, official of house Kebbi State house of assembly PSAN and a host of others, in his address to the mamoth gathering of willing participants he said, the organised labour as part of its primary responsibility to entire workers in the country  convened here to convey the message of the National body of the union to other unions and mobilise to the impending strike scheduled to hold on September the 28th.

The labour chief added that, the industrial action is to press the government to reverse petrol and electricity hike which has added severe pains to an already exhausted and frustrated Nigerians whose minimum wage cannot meet even their basic needs, he decried the insensitivity of the federal government to the plight of the entire citizenry who can hardly fend for themselves even before the unwarranted increase.

Responding on behalf of the trade union congress,the state chairman comrade Danladi Aliyu Dabai said his union has already mobilised for the strike, according to him no court can avert the strike until the government reverses its excruciating hike in petrol and electricity  he maitained that if the industrial action finally holds when government refused to shift ground the entire country will remain grounded till the demands and/or list of conditions are met as submitted to the federal government.

All representatives of the labour affliates have accepted to join the NLC on the strike, each will later convey same to its members for proper mobilisation preparatory to the strike, at the end of the meeting Umar thanked all those who attended the meeting and added if there is need for protest same will be communicated to all the Unions saying civil servants are to stay at home on Monday as officials of the union will move around to ensure compliance.
