Sokoto State Commissioner of Health,  Dr. Muhammad Ali Inname, has assured that underpayment to state health workers would soon be a thing of the past.

The Commissioner made the assurance at an official launching and flagging off of MCV2 Introduction in the state.

Dr. Inname who represented the governor, Rt. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, reiterates the state government commitments for the improvement of health and provision of quality health care services to all.

He said all the arrangement has been made for the recruitment of thousands health volunteers who will help in complementing the state government efforts toward the provision of health services.

He added that the state government is working day and night to see all the underpaying staff in the health sector get their normal salaries soon.

The MCV2 represents a platform to deliver other interventions to children in their second year of life. Its introduction marks a significant enhancement of the routine immunization schedule.

Recalled that previously, children required five visits, all before their first birthday to get the full schedule of vaccines; these were at birth, 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 14 weeks and 9 months.

With the introduction of the second dose of measles at 15 months, the complete vaccination schedule now requires six visits; any child 15 to 23 months can be taken to get a second measles vaccination to strengthen their immunity and that of their community.

Inname, further explained that second dose of measles is a powerful opportunity to provide more protection against an ancient but preventable disease that continues to afflict  children.

He advised all parents and guardians to seize the opportunity with both hands.

“It is therefore important for children everywhere – in the cities or villages, in riverine areas or mountainous ranges, in the comforts of their homes or in IDP camps to be protected”.

This year’s event took place at Primary Health Centre, Arkila, Wamakko local government.

It was a collaboration effort between state Ministry of health, State primary health care development agency, UNICEF, WHO and other partners.
