Sokoto State ministry of health has announced that fifteen new positive case of coronavirus was discovered in the state on Tuesday.
This is according to a statement on the official Twitter handle of the ministry, where it was also revealed that with this latest development, the state now boast of 40 active cases scattered across the isolation centres in the state.
The total number of confirmed cases has also jumped to 208 out of which 150 of them had completed their treatment and already discharged to reunite with their families.
The statement also disclosed that a total number of 11,199 had been carried out in the state out of which 10,991 of them were returned negative, while another 1,183 samples result still pending as at the the time of filling this report. The state has also recorded 17 fatalities as a result of covid-19 related disease since the first index case.
Meanwhile, some of the residents who spoke with our correspondent expressed concern about the sudden surge in the number of affected persons in the state of recent.
They called on government to redouble it’s efforts in enforcing the laid down protocols against the spread of the virus in the state.
They also called for more awareness among residents of the state, saying most people especially those in the rural areas are not aware of the existence of the disease again.
The state Commissioner for health who is also the state chairman on task force against covid-19, Dr Muhammed Ali Inname, has assured that the state government will do everything within it’s capacity to curtail the spread in the state.
