President Mohammadu Buhari on Friday paid homage to Nigeria’s fallen heroes as he observed this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

The ceremony held at the National Remembrance Arcade, opposite the Eagles Square in Abuja.

The annual event held simultaneously across the 36 States in honour Nigeria’s fallen heroes who paid the supreme sacrifice for peace and territorial integrity of the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari who is the grand patron of the Nigerian Legion, arrived the cenotaph opposite the Eagles Square at exactly 10am before he was shortly invited by Commander Major Abdulmalik Sulieman to review the parade.

The solemn ceremony in honour of patriotic Nigerians who laid down their lives during the first and second World wars, the civil war, international operations and insurgency, had five guards on parade as well as four colours of Nigeria, Army, Airforce and Navy.

Before the wreath laying ceremony, prayers were held for the living and fallen heroes and then a minute silence observed in their honour.

Highlight of the ceremony was the signing of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day anniversary register.

The event came to a close with the release of pigeons, symbolizing peace in the country.
