The Nigerian Army on Tuesday appointed Brig-General Mohammed Yerima as the director of army public relations. He replaces Brig-Gen Sagir Musa, who has been serving on acting capacity since February 2019.
The New Narratve learnt from sources that Musa has been deployed to the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Minna, Niger State.
Military sources told The New Narrative that the Chief of Army Staff said it was expedient to reposition the information unit of Nigerian Army.
Musa took charge of the unit following the voluntary retirement of Brig. General Kukasheka Sani Usman about two years ago.
Sources further hinted that the ongoing shake-up being carried out by the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Maj-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, will affect some other top officers at Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
Before his appointment, Yerima was at the PR unit of Defence Headquarters, Abuja. He had also served in various military formations.
He obtained a B.A. (Ed) Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University before he enrolled into the Nigerian Army in October 1989 and was commissioned into the corps of Army Public Relations.
Yerima was the ADC to Commander TRADOC, Major-General Ishola William between 1990-1993; Public Relations Officer NAOWA in the Office of Chief of Army Staff 1994; Spokesperson 81 Division of the Nigerian Army 1995-1996; PRO Nigerian Defence Academy 1996-2000; Military Spokesperson United Nation Mission in Sierra Leone 2000-2002 and PRO to Chief of Army Staff 2003.
Other previous positions he held were PRO, Chief of Defence Staff 2005; Deputy Director Public Relation 1 of Nigerian Army 2008 (Chief of Staff and Coordinator at Directorate of Army Public Relations 2007-2009 and Director Defence Information in 2009 to 2013.
