The Nigerian erosion watershed management project (NEWMAP), as well as AIM Consultant limited, has assured residents of Mabera community in Sokoto of timely completion of drainage project.
This is as residents of Mabera community in Sokoto State commended the government of the state over the ongoing construction of water drainage in the area.
The representative of NEWMAP who address newsmen, assured that the eight months duration of the project will be adhere to by the contractor, AIM Consultant limited.
He said the project covered a total land space of 18.59km with a total number of 17 drainages.
The drainages according to Yabo include 4 major drainage as well as 13 sub drainages across the area.
While commending the efforts of the state governor, Yabo also praised the state commissioner for environment, Alhaji Sagir Bafarawa for all the assistance rendered to the organization in making sure that the project is delivered on time.
Some of the residents who spoke with our correspondent during an inspection tour by journalists to the area describe the projects as God directed one.
They appealed to the state governor, Rt. Honourable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, to do everything within his power to deliver on schedule.
Hajia Hawau Ibrahim, while speaking with newsmen said she is the luckiest person in the environment due to the project.
She said for the last eight years that she has been living in the environment, every rainy season is always a nightmare due to flood in the area.
She however appealed to the government as well as the contracting firm handling the project to ensure the completion of the project as schedule.
Also speaking, Mr Mukhtar Ibrahim, one of the beneficiary of the state government compensation, described the project as not only timely but commendable.
He assured that residents of Mabera has decided to take ownership of the project when completed to ensure that it serve it’s purpose to every residents of the state.
It could be recalled that residents of Mabera community have for long suffering as a result of flooding during raining season.
The residents during the rainy season most atimes depends on the use of canoe to move around in the environment.
