Governor Okezie Ikpeazu says his administration is still committed in her efforts at achieving a safe and secure Abia for all. This is coming on the heels of insecurity situation across the country including Abia.
The governor stated this at the Flag off Ceremony for the Sensitization Workshop Against Criminal Activities in Abia Communities held at Micahel Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia.
Ikpeazu represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Okochukwu regretted the pockets of insecurity across the state and revealed that proactive measures have been put in place to restore Abia to her safest state amongst comity of states.
The governor who explained that no society thrives in the presence of insecurity charged traditional rulers and others to fish out criminals in their communities and assured of confidentiality of informants.
He re-emphasized the need for citizens to become more security conscious and appealed to the security agencies to help enforce the anti open grazing law passed by the state House of Assembly.
In his keynote address, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, who is also the Coordinator of the Workshop, Barr. Anthony Agbazuere re-echoed the primary responsibility of any government to secure lives and property of her citizens.
He noted that the resolve to educate citizens on security stems from the need to ensure that they willingly volunteer information that will help the state Government fight insecurity across the state.
Agbazuere recalled that though Abia was once declared one of the most secured state in Nigeria, it is imperative that it does all within her powers to ensure that Abia remains secure despite pockets of insecurity experienced in the state.
The workshop he said is therefore aimed at consolidating Government’s efforts at securing the lives and property of citizens while ensuring that the grassroots remain safe and secure while seeking the collective responsibility of all.
He also hammered on the need to enhance the welfare of security personnel, and provision of employment opportunities while staying vigilante at all times.
Chairman, Umuahia South Local Government Area, Ugochukwu Njinkeonye explained that security is a collective responsibility and called on everyone present to take the message of adequate security for all home in a bid to secure the state for even development.
The event featured lectures by the state Commissioner of Police, Janeth Agbede, State Director of Department of State Security, the Commandant, 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and Chairman, Abia State Council of Ndieze.
The workshop will be held in all the 17 Local Government Areas of the state from 23rd of February till 3rd of March, 2021.
