The newly elected Chairman of Sokoto North local government in the just concluded local government elections in the state, Hon. Mustapha Shehu has promised to prioritise issues of healthcare and women empowerment among others.
Shehu, a veteran journalist and media manager is contested and won on the platform of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party for Sokoto North Local Government Area of the state.
In his reaction shortly after his declaration as the winner of the contest on Sunday by the State Independent Electoral Commission, Shehu said his first assignment is to revive various dilapidated primary healthcare centers within the council.
Shehu noted that since the council he is seeking to govern is a cosmopolitan city, there is need to ensure the residents enjoy vital social amenities.
“Like the issue of healthcare, my first assignment now that I am elected is to ensure that all primary healthcare centers and cottage hospitals are revive to standard. This will reduce the pressure of out-patients in major hospitals within the state capital.
“Another issue is women and youth empowerment. We intend to establish skill acquisition centers across the wards or least four center that spread within the council.” Shehu explained.
Other issues to prioritise include provision of potable water, improvement of the council’s Internally Generated Revenues (IGR) and environmental sanitation.
He emphasised prudence and accountability would be his watchword in managing fund accrued to the Council, adding that his integrity still remains uncompromised.
Shehu however commended the state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for his courageous stand against ghost workers syndrome in the state, adding that he will help in ensure the stand.
