Hajia Rakiya Muhammed, the former chairperson of Correspondent Chapel, Sokoto State, has on Saturday emerged as the new chairperson of Nigerian Association of Women Journalist, Sokoto State Council.

She emerged alongside the new executive members in a no contest vote to steer the ship of the council to a greater height.

In her inaugural speech at the state headquarters of the Nigerian Union of Journalist, Sokoto, after administering oath of office led by the NAWOJ zonal vice president, Hajia Halima Musa, who was represented by the zonal secretary, Hajia Rabi Muh’d. She thanked members of the council to take the union to another level in the state.

She described NAWOJ, as the major voice of the voiceless especially women whose voiced need to be heard across the country.

Also speaking, the newly elected secretary, Hajia Zainab, expressed deep appreciation to the state executive members of NUJ as well as the Zonal representative of NAWOJ for making the occasion a reality.

In his remarks, the state chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalist, Sokoto State Council, Comerade Isa Abubakar Shuni, urged the executive to always carry along members in decision making.

Other members on new state executive members of the union includes Aisha Muh’d Madawaki as vice chairperson, Zainab Saidu Abdulnasir as Secretary and Ummi Usman as Assistant Secretary.

Other includes  Hannatu Abubakar as new Treasurer, Hajia Safiya Abdullahi as the new financial secretary and Hajia Fatima Bello as the new auditor of the union.
