The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has organized a one day workshop training for about 70 Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs) and other business owners on how to explore export financing opportunities.
The workshop which was organized for Small and Medium Enterprise owners in Sokoto on Tuesday was targeted at supporting and developing SMEs in the non-oil export sector for increased productivity, competitiveness and performance.
Speaking in his address, the Executive Director/CEO, Nigeria Export Promotion Council, Dr Ezra Yakusak, said the workshop is in line with the Export-for-Survival advocacy of the council flagged off for insights to explore resources for the sustenance of economic growth.
He further urged business owners in Sokoto state to collaborate with trade and financial support institutions on accessing right funds and other opportunities for business growth.
Also speaking in his presentation, Alhaji Yahaya Ahmad-Sakaraiju, the NEPC Trade Support Adviser in charge of Sokoto state office, who spoke on behalf of the Managing Director, made the call at one day Training Workshop for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Export Financing organized for business owners in Sokoto.
In his paper tagged ” Accessing Finance for Accelerated Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Growth in Export Business” Ahmad-Sakaraiju, who represented Executive Director of NEPC, Dr Ezra Yakusak, said government determine to increase productivity, competitiveness and performance.
He said the training was in line with the Export-for-Survival advocacy to explore resources for the sustenance of economic growth.
He also explained that underscored the importance of exports relevance to the economy and development of MSMEs for increased value-chain in the non-oil export sector.
” The development of any growing economy is reliant on the expansion of non-oil export sector for comparative advantage in the international export trade.
” The development of SMEs will strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem, with a positive and significant impact on innovation and aggregate productivity, ” He said.
He appealed for stakeholders increased committment to sustain the impacts made and continue supporting non-oil export sector noting that thier contribution would surely improve revenue generation and poverty reduction.
According to him, SMEs are integral part of the nation and the council core mandate included development potential and existing exporters for enhanced export value chain.
“We are helping businesses to explore new and emerging markets, fund access through a hollistic study of dynamics.
“This programme will act as a catalyst for existing and potential exporters to access funds for their products for the benefit of the country at large”, he said.
Mrs Onyekan Duke, a Trade Promotion Officer from NEPC Headquarters, said export financing is among the major difficulties business owners faced in the country.
Duke led participants to list of institutions where to access easy fund without much payment burden stressing that for business owners to access government provided opportunities as they were usually supportive.
A lead facilitator, Mr Balogun Vincent, from Laariba microfinance Sokoto, led the participants on online platforms to improve thier capacity on business growth and modern business modalities as well as increased funds access with certificates obtained.
Vincent urged participants to utilize Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), NISAL microfinance and financial institutions with interest free loan to finance thier businesses.
Alhaji Sani Hamidu, the Director of Commerce in Sokoto state Ministry of Commerce and Industry, commended NEPC for the stride and enjoined participants to utilize the knowledge and opportunities for enhancing thier businesses.
A cross section of participants expressed excitement over the opportunity as it broadened thier foresight on financial access to improve investments.
