The Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah, has described the current situation in the country as a city with two cities.

Bishop Kukah in his 2022 Christmas message delivered at Holy Family Church on Sunday in Sokoto, said the country have wars between the rich and the poor, men and women, across generations, along party lines, social classes, religion, ethnicity among others.

Kukah further said that the centre has given up in almost every department,  “fixing our country and getting it back requires courage, honesty, truth, humility, trust and firm commitment. Lies and blackmail is no substitute.

“In the light of this, I wish to appeal to all Nigerians who have been given custody of our public trust and commonwealth to rise up to the duties for which they been so handsomely rewarded.

“Those holding elective office must appreciate that they have not just been entrusted with the keys of our commonwealth just so they can turn it into their private money machines.

“History will record them and their roles, how they use the great opportunity God gave them among millions of other citizens”

Bishop Kukah however congratulating President Muhammad Buhari for witnessing another Christmas in good health condition, appealed to him to improve more on the living condition of an average Nigerian.

He said, ” we thank God who mercifully restored you to good health, we know that you are healthier now than you were before, we can see it in the  spring in your steps, the thousands of miles you have continued to cover as you travel about road, may God gives you more years of good health.

“However, I wish millions of our citizens had a chance to enjoy just a fraction of your own health by a measurable improvement in the quality of health care in our country. It is sad that despite your lofty promises, you are leaving us far more vulnerable than when you came.

“The corruption we thought would be fought has become a leviathans and sadly, a consequence of a government marked by nepotism.

“In my Christmas message last year, I pointed out the fact that you had breached the Constitution by your failure to honour and adhere to the federal character provisions of our constitution. The evidence is all before us all”

He however commend the president in the area of infrastructure, which he said there has been a measurable improvement in the landscape especially in the area of roads as well as the improvement in Electoral processes.

Meanwhile, as the country getting set for another general elections, Bishop Kukah has called on politicians across the country to co-operate and collaborate with the institutions tasked with the responsibility of the election.

He called on Nigerians especially those within the voting age to take the chance of renew the hope of the nation by voting for the right candidates and not to be carried away with campaign promises or claims of past record.
