The tranquility of Imariogha Community in Edo State was shattered as armed gunmen, self-identifying as “Ijaw Freedom Fighters,” launched a brazen attack on Sunday night. The assailants, reportedly arriving from the Riverside, unleashed chaos by setting fire to over eight vehicles and causing extensive damage to numerous houses.
Confirming the incident, Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Funsho Adegboye, acknowledged the assault and assured that law enforcement agencies were actively engaged in restoring order. Collaborative efforts with security organizations and Okomu Oil Palm Company were underway to address the situation.
Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing events of the attack, describing how the gunmen arrived at midnight, indiscriminately firing shots and leaving destruction in their wake. Tragically, one person lost their life in the onslaught, while another, identified as Chief Gabriel Okorugbe, sustained injuries and was hospitalized.
Among the chaos, the attackers left a chilling warning note addressed to Governor Godwin Obaseki. In the note, they outlined their demands, including a directorship position within Okomu Oil Palm Plc and a substantial stake in the company’s shares.
