Following the tragic attack on the Gezawa Mosque in Kano, the death toll has risen to 11, according to local authorities. The Kano State Police Command confirmed that eight victims had succumbed to their injuries, with seven more fatalities occurring while receiving medical treatment.

The attack, orchestrated by suspect Shafiu Abubakar, 38, was allegedly motivated by a longstanding family dispute over inheritance. Abubakar admitted to authorities that he targeted individuals involved in the dispute, locking the mosque doors and setting it ablaze in a bid to assert his grievances.

Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing moments as flames engulfed the mosque, trapping worshippers inside. Sadik Kamal described the panic and chaos as latecomers struggled to open the locked doors to facilitate escape.
