The Defence Headquarters has declared Halilu Buzu, a terrorist leader from Buzu in the Republic of Niger, wanted for his involvement in various criminal activities, including operating an illegal gold mine, cattle rustling, and arms supply in Zamfara State.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operation, announced the development during a briefing on military operations, stating that Buzu’s activities have led to numerous casualties, including the recent killing of 19 villagers at Farar Kasa.
Buzu, described as a High-Value Target, is known for his involvement in arms trafficking from Libya and seeks refuge across the border in Niger when pursued by Nigerian troops. The military has called on Nigerian authorities to apprehend Buzu and hold him accountable for his atrocities.
In addition to Buzu, the military disclosed that soldiers have killed 227 terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminals in the past week, while also arresting 529 criminals and rescuing 253 kidnapped hostages. Numerous weapons and illegal refining sites were also discovered and destroyed during operations.
Troops recovered a significant cache of weapons, including rifles, grenades, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and ammunition, preventing oil thefts amounting to over N1.3 billion in the Niger Delta region.
General Buba emphasized the military’s commitment to destroying terrorists’ capabilities and praised the troops for their dedication and sacrifice in ensuring the safety and security of the nation.
