Kano Emirate Crisis: Kwankwaso urges Tinubu to act like Statesman and prevent looming anarchy

Former governor of Kano State, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to act as statesman and father to all in the current tussle for Kano Emirate stool.

Kwankwaso stated that the issue of appointing and removing traditional rulers is an exclusive preserve of the Kano State Governor, Engr. Kabir Yusuf.

He therefore urged the president not to allow any situation whereby the governor would be impeded from performing his official assignment.

Reacting to the action of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-General Thaoheed Lagbaja to provide security cover for the return of the now deposed former Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the former governor stated that the move is capable of setting the state on fire.

Kwankwaso in a statement he issued in Kano by Mall. Abdulmalik Suleiman on Saturday urged the president not to be swayed by the antics of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by the National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to set the state on fire.

“I am urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at this juncture to act like a statesman and father to prevent looming danger currently playing out in Kano occasioned by the antics of members of his party who are hell bent in hijacking the state after losing resoundingly at the poll.

“In case the president is not aware, some elements around him are illegally using state machinery to unlawfully hijack the Kano Emirate stool. This portends great danger, not only for the state but also for the country,” the statement read.

While calling the president to call his political appointees to order, the former federal lawmaker urged Tinubu to remember the situation when he was also at the receiving end of the Federal might and how he stood his ground to protect democracy and the rule of law.

“I will like you to take a pause and remember the time when you acted in your capacity as the governor of Lagos State when allocation due to local government areas were withheld by the Federal Government.

“You stood your grounds and the whole country stood with you and in the end, you triumphed knowing fully well that you were right. You acted within the confides of the law and you won at the courts.

“The same scenario is replaying itself in Kano today, where the sitting governor in exercising of his powers to enthrone or dethrone any monarch is being impeded by the same federal might under your watch. Time to pull back is now,” he said.
