Nigeria’s 100m hurdles world record holder, Tobi Amusan, has been cleared to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed appeals filed by World Athletics (WA) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) challenging the decision to clear her of a doping offence.

In July 2023, Amusan was charged by WA for allegedly committing an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) under Rule 2.4 WA ADR due to three alleged whereabouts failures within a 12-month period. However, Amusan contested the charge, and in August 2023, the World Athletics Disciplinary Tribunal (WADT) ruled that she did not violate Rule 2.4 of the WA Anti-Doping Rules, thereby imposing no period of ineligibility on the athlete.

On Friday, CAS upheld the WADT decision, rejecting the appeals from WA and WADA, which had sought to impose a two-year period of ineligibility on Amusan.

“The CAS Panel held a hearing on January 19. Having deliberated, the CAS Panel has issued its decision today dismissing both appeals,” CAS stated.

The CAS Panel concluded that Amusan had committed two filing failures but did not confirm the existence of a missed test, which would have constituted the third whereabouts failure within a 12-month period. Consequently, the panel determined that Amusan did not commit an ADRV and affirmed the WADT’s decision.

This ruling allows Tobi Amusan to compete in the upcoming Paris Olympics, marking a significant victory in her athletic career and maintaining her eligibility for international competition.
