The Nigerian military reported significant gains in its ongoing operations against terrorism and criminal activities across the country. Within a week, troops successfully eliminated 108 terrorists and rescued 214 kidnapped hostages, according to Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations.
During the operations, 204 suspected terrorists and criminals were apprehended, and a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered. The recovered items included 66 assorted weapons and 4,087 rounds of various ammunition types. Among the notable recoveries were AK47 rifles, RPG launchers, and several vehicles and motorcycles used by the insurgents.
In the North East, under Operation Hadin Kai, the military neutralized 47 terrorists, arrested 18 suspects, and rescued 130 hostages. Notably, 622 terrorists, including women and children, surrendered to the troops during the week. The Air Component of the operation also targeted and destroyed a newly uncovered Boko Haram/ISWAP hideout and IED factory in the Mandara Mountains.
In other regions, the military continued its offensive, with significant results reported in the North Central, North West, South-South, and South East. Operations in these areas led to the elimination of more terrorists, the rescue of additional hostages, and the destruction of illegal refining sites and other criminal infrastructure.
The military’s operations are part of a broader effort to combat terrorism, banditry, and other forms of violence across Nigeria, with the goal of restoring peace and security to affected regions.
