The chairman of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Imo state, Ogbuefi Val Amafili has carpeted the defectors as political prostitutes and rolling stones that can never gather any moss in the nation’s firmament.
The SDP state chairman was expressing his mind following the gale of defections rocking the political atmosphere across the country especially between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
Amafili attributed the defections to lack of patience, tolerance and understanding among the political class, stressing that while the measure is both a plus and a minus, it is alien to the more advanced democratic nations of the world.
Speaking with newsman at the party secretariat in Owerri shortly after the election of new state Executives of the party, Amafili lamented that politicians usually desert their party for another when they feel disillusioned and uncomfortable.
Amafili however advised party leaders to always shun arrogance and high handedness in their leadership since no one has monopoly of knowledge, adding that they should be ready to accept ideas from all and sundry.
The Imo state party chairman described the state congress of the party as hitch free and very successful stressing that the party which stands for progress, social justice and good governance is poised to dislodge the ruling APC in the state from power next year.
He said, “We have fashioned a people-oriented program and we will surely move to government House Owerri and also win all the House of Assembly seats during the forthcoming general elections next year”.
Amafili assured that the SDP would liberate the state from its current state of abyss, if the party is given the mandate such as fixing her economy and turning the state around with agricultural revolution.
He also maintained that industrialization, job creation and maximum security will also be given priority thereby giving the state a new face structurally and economically for an all round development.
The Imo state SDP chairman said that the party is prepared to work with any coalition but would not merge with any political party so as not to lose the identity of the party.
