The Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Kware, in Sokoto State, has commenced the open bidding process for its 2025 capital projects in strict adherence to the Public Procurement Act and national procurement guidelines.
The Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Shehu Sale, stated that the proposed projects include the renovation, equipping, and furnishing of the former hostel for students of the School of Post Basic Psychiatric Nursing.
He added that other projects comprise the procurement and installation of medical laboratory equipment, reagents, and consumables, as well as the deployment of an alternative solar power system for the new College of Nursing Science building. Additional plans also cover the acquisition of medical equipment, accessories, and consumables for general hospital use.
Prof. Sale emphasized that the public bid opening was part of the hospital’s commitment to due process and transparency in contract awards.
“The process allows participating companies to assess the competitiveness of their submissions and ensures that the hospital complies with all statutory procurement requirements before awarding contracts,” he said.
The hospital’s Chief Procurement Officer, Mr. Yusuf Ibrahim, revealed that 29 companies submitted bids for the Federal Government-approved capital projects. He stressed that quality and compliance with standards would not be compromised during contractor selection.
“It is important to note that the lowest bid does not automatically win the contract,” Ibrahim said. “All proposals will be professionally evaluated to ensure they meet the required technical and financial criteria.”
Chairperson of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Sokoto State chapter, Ms. Rashida Muhammad, who was present at the event, applauded the hospital’s management for its transparent approach and urged it to sustain the practice.
The bidding process was witnessed by representatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the NBA, civil society groups, journalists, and other stakeholders.
