The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, has congratulated the newly appointed Director General of Media and Publicity to the Sokoto State Governor, Malam Abubakar Bawa, describing his elevation as a well-deserved recognition of professionalism, consistency, and dedication to public service.
In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Usman Mohammed Binji, and Secretary, Muhammad Nasir Bello, the union lauded Malam Bawa’s impressive record as Press Secretary to the Executive Governor, noting that his promotion reflects both merit and a commitment to effective governance communication.
“As Press Secretary, Malam Bawa demonstrated uncommon commitment, clarity in communication, and a deep understanding of the media landscape,” the statement read. “His elevation is no surprise and stands as a testament to his outstanding service and competence.”
The NUJ further commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for appointing a seasoned journalist and loyal union member to such a critical role in his administration. According to the union, the move is a bold affirmation of the Governor’s appreciation for professionalism and merit-based appointments.
“This gesture underscores the Governor’s belief in excellence and the value of putting capable hands in key positions,” the union noted.
While expressing confidence in Bawa’s capacity to excel in his new role, the NUJ also used the opportunity to appeal to the Governor to continue supporting the union in its efforts to promote ethical journalism, enhance capacity building among members, and contribute meaningfully to Sokoto State’s development agenda through responsible media engagement.
The union reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the state government in fostering good governance, transparency, and effective public enlightenment.
