Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Friday, confirmed the resolution of the political differences between him and his predecessor, who is also incumbent Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

He described the development as a key step towards lasting peace in the state.

Fubara stated this in a statewide broadcast on Friday.

He described the six-month emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu as challenging but ultimately gave the room to all parties to resolve their differences.

“In the course of the six-month period, Mr. President graciously brokered the peace process with all the parties successfully. Our Leader, His Excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and I, as your Governor, have all accepted to bury the hatchet and embrace peace and reconciliation in the best interest of our dear Rivers State,” he said.

Governor Fubara’s reinstatement followed the lifting of a six-month emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu in March 2025, which saw Fubara, his deputy, and the Rivers State House of Assembly suspended amid a political and legislative crisis.

The emergency lasted until mid-September, at which point democratic governance was restored.

During the crisis, a peace deal was brokered with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, ending their public rift.

The governor’s announcement comes amid lingering political tensions in Rivers, which have seen repeated clashes between rival factions loyal to him and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
