The Federal Government has announced plans to distribute ₦25,000 cash each to 15 million of the poorest households in Nigeria as part of its welfare intervention scheme.

The Federal Ministry of Finance, in an update on Saturday, September 27, confirmed that the direct transfers will be executed under the National Social Safety Net Project Scale Up (NASSP–SU).

According to the statement posted via the ministry’s official X handle, beneficiaries will receive the payments in three instalments.

It reads: “Under the National Social Safety Net Project Scale Up (NASSP–SU), 15 million of Nigeria’s poorest households are set to receive ₦25,000 in three instalments.

“Here’s the latest progress

  • 8.1 million households have been paid. That’s 54% of the target.
  • 2.2 million new households received payments between June and August 2025.
  • Beneficiaries are spread across all regions, with a growing focus on female-led households.
  • Data shows the breakdown by region, gender, and age group.

“Personal names cannot be published due to privacy laws, but this aggregated data shows clearly where the money is going.

The direct benefit transfers are real, and millions of Nigerian households are benefitting.”
