Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has disclosed that the state will host the E1 Lagos Grand Prix, Africa’s first all-electric powerboat championship, from October 3 to 5.

Inviting the general public to the race, Sanwo-Olu, in a statement on his social media handle on Monday, described the event as a historic moment for Lagos and the continent.

The governor noted that it reflects the city’s drive for innovation, sustainability, and global recognition.

He wrote, “The E1 Lagos Grand Prix is a demonstration of innovation and progress, showing how sport can inspire sustainable solutions for the future.

“It is also a celebration of the creativity and resilience that define our people.”

The governor continued that the championship will provide an opportunity to showcase Lagos as a welcoming and dynamic city, determined to embrace the future with confidence.

Sanwo-Olu urged the public to secure tickets via www.e1lagos.com, stressing that the event will place both Lagos and Africa prominently on the global stage.

Recall that promoters of the initiative had earlier stated that the E1 Grand Prix, the world’s first electric powerboat championship, would bring the planet’s fastest electric boats to Lagos waters.

The event places the city alongside international host destinations such as Monaco, Venice, and Jeddah, while also giving Lagos the chance to carve its own identity as Africa’s aquatic capital.
