The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, 1st October 2025, as a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani, and released on Monday, Dr Tunji-Ojo congratulated all Nigerians, both at home and abroad, on the occasion of the nation’s 65th year of independence.

He called on citizens to continue to embody the values of patriotism, unity, and resilience that have sustained Nigeria since gaining independence in 1960.

The Minister further urged Nigerians to maintain faith in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said is focused on national rebirth, economic transformation, and collective prosperity.

Expressing optimism about the future, Dr Tunji-Ojo said he was confident that with the collective cooperation of all Nigerians, the country would continue to progress in peace, unity, and development.

He wished Nigerians a happy and memorable Independence Day celebration.
