In a ceremony marked by pride, achievement, and emotion, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has inducted 255 newly qualified medical doctors from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), reaffirming the nation’s commitment to grooming the next generation of healthcare professionals equipped to serve humanity with integrity and skill.

Among the inductees celebrated for academic distinction and professional promise was Dr. Uchenna Nto, a 23-year-old exceptional graduate whose sterling performance earned him a place among the top of his class. Uchenna is the son of Dr. Phillip Nto, Director, Agricultural Business Incubation Centre, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, and immediate past Provost, Abia State College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu.

The induction ceremony, held at the College of Medicine, Ituku-Ozalla Campus, Enugu State, brought together dignitaries from academia, the medical profession, and government agencies. It featured the formal administration of the Hippocratic Oath by the Registrar of MDCN, symbolizing the inductees’ commitment to uphold the ethics, discipline, and compassion that define medical practice.

Registrar of MDCN, Prof Fatima Kyari, commended the authorities of UNN for sustaining the highest standards in the training of medical doctors for which the university is famous.

Prof Kyari, who was represented by Dr Tijani, charged the new doctors to always put the ethics of the profession first by upholding moral practice and treating everyone with respect and dignity. He urged them to refrain from acts that would warrant them being questioned by the council but strive to be good representatives of the medical body.

Also speaking during the event, Vice Chancellor University of Nigeria, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Enugu campus, said the 255 doctors drawn from the Class of 2024 were trained according to the tradition of the university. He charged them to always be good ambassadors of the university.

Expressing his joy and gratitude, Dr. Uchenna Nto dedicated his success to God, his parents, and his mentors who guided his journey.

“This milestone is both humbling and inspiring. I am grateful for the support and sacrifices that made this possible, and I look forward to serving humanity with diligence and empathy,” he said.

As the inductees recited the Hippocratic Oath, the atmosphere was filled with pride, applause, and deep emotion, a moment that symbolized not just the end of a journey but the beginning of a lifelong mission of healing, service, and compassion.

The ceremony reinforced the University of Nigeria’s enduring commitment to academic excellence and professional integrity, living up to its motto: “To Restore the Dignity of Man.”
