Governor Peter Mba

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending weeks of political speculation across the South-East.
The governor announced his defection during a press conference held on Tuesday in Enugu, where he was joined by his predecessor, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, federal and state lawmakers, local government chairmen, and other top political appointees.

Dr Mbah explained that the decision came after “a long period of reflection” and was aimed at aligning with a political platform capable of accelerating development and ensuring Enugu’s voice is heard at the national level.

“Today, after a long period of reflection, we have decided to leave the PDP and join the APC. We share a vision that transformation must be disruptive,” he said.

According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu embodies the kind of leadership Nigeria needs — one that is “bold enough to make tough choices for lasting prosperity.”

“I have found in His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a partner in purpose, a man with the courage to look beyond today and make the tough choices that secure lasting prosperity for tomorrow,” Mbah stated.

The governor described his defection as a collective political movement involving “members of the National Assembly, the State House of Assembly, the State Executive Council, all council chairmen, councillors, and over 80% of party executives in Enugu.”

While expressing gratitude to the PDP for its support during his political journey, Mbah lamented that the South-East’s loyalty to the opposition party had not translated into tangible inclusion at the federal level.

“To the Peoples Democratic Party, which provided us the platform on which we campaigned and won, I extend deep gratitude. But despite our loyalty, our voices were too often disregarded,” he said.

Mbah assured the people of Enugu that his move to the APC would usher in a new era of collaboration and growth, adding that the state now has a direct link to federal power.

“The voice of Enugu people and indeed that of the South-East people would now be heard in Abuja,” he affirmed.

He reiterated that the decision was not whimsical but born out of the collective interest of the people, pledging to work closely with President Tinubu to achieve transformative development in the state
