Nigeria will officially take over the chairmanship of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four (G-24) from Argentina on November 1, 2025, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced on Wednesday.
The apex bank confirmed the development in a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, describing it as a significant milestone for the country’s leadership role among developing economies.
The announcement follows Nigeria’s renewed call in 2024 for increased investment and stronger trade partnerships among G-24 member nations.
Formed in 1971, the G-24 brings together developing countries to coordinate their positions on international monetary and development finance issues, ensuring their interests are represented in global economic decision-making forums.
According to the CBN, Nigeria will “formally take office on November 1, 2025, and will unveil its Work Programme after due consultation.”
Speaking at the group’s meeting, CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso — representing the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun — reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening the bloc’s influence in promoting inclusive global dialogue and economic reform.
“Our focus will be on sustaining momentum in areas that matter most to our members,” Cardoso said. “We look forward to working with members to advance our shared mission of inclusive growth, equity, and global stability. We are determined to ensure that the G-24 remains a formidable platform for representing the common interests of emerging and developing economies.”
