The United States Department of State has announced the cancellation of about 80,000 visas belonging to Nigerians and citizens of other countries.
In a statement released on Thursday, the department described the move as part of President Donald Trump’s commitment to protecting Americans, saying it is a case of “promises made, promises kept.”
According to the statement, the major reasons for the revocations include:
Driving under the influence (DUI) – 16,000 cases
Assault – 12,000 cases
Theft – 8,000 cases
Other offences listed include terrorism, supporting terrorist activity, public safety threats, and overstaying visas.
The State Department noted that the Trump administration will continue to prioritize the security and interests of American citizens.
