By Gbolahan Salman Sokoto

The Special Adviser to the Sokoto State Governor on Security Matters, Col. Ahmed Usman (rtd), has congratulated the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (rtd), on his appointment as Minister of Defence following the resignation of Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar.

In a statement issued to journalists on Friday, Col. Usman described General Musa’s appointment as “well-earned and timely,” noting that it reflects a recognition of his “exceptional service, proven leadership, and unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unity and security.”

He said the transition comes at a defining moment in the country’s security landscape, with Nigeria in need of seasoned professionals to drive reforms and strengthen the defence architecture.

“General Musa is stepping into this role at a critical period. His vast operational experience and strategic insight will be invaluable in confronting banditry, insurgency, kidnapping, and other emerging threats,” Usman said.

The retired colonel expressed confidence that the new minister’s track record would translate into renewed vigour within the Armed Forces and improved collaboration among security agencies nationwide.

He also underscored the need for enhanced intelligence gathering, improved troop morale, and increased deployment of modern security technologies to stay ahead of criminal networks.

“Nigerians have high expectations, but I am confident that General Musa will deliver. His professionalism and dedication are well known,” he added.

Col. Usman reaffirmed the readiness of the Sokoto State Government to partner with the Federal Ministry of Defence in efforts to safeguard citizens, especially in communities affected by banditry.

He said Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen peace and stability across the state.

Usman concluded by praying for divine guidance for the new minister as he assumes office, expressing hope that his tenure will mark “a new chapter of progress” in Nigeria’s fight against insecurity.
