The Northern Progressive and Advancement Forum has demanded immediate action from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) against politicians allegedly calling for foreign intervention in Nigeria’s security affairs.
Spokesperson of the Forum, Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf, issued the warning on Sunday after the group’s strategic meeting in Birnin Kebbi, insisting that such calls threaten national stability.
Yusuf described the comments by some northern politicians—especially from Zamfara—as “reckless, dangerous and bordering on treason.”
“Freedom of expression is not a ticket for politicians to sabotage the country because of personal grudges,” he said.
“Some of them enjoyed power in the past but are now fanning the flames of insecurity simply out of hatred and frustration.”
He accused the critics of launching a coordinated campaign against Minister of Defence, Bello Matawalle, in an attempt to discredit security gains recorded under his watch.
Yusuf recalled that as governor, Matawalle removed a relative of one of the agitators after a controversial Emir turbaned wanted bandit leader Ado Alero—an action he said still fuels political bitterness today.
The Forum also berated former APGA National Secretary, Alhaji Abdullahi Shinkafi, for what it called baseless allegations and “habitual incitement.”
“Their utterances are not only irresponsible but dangerous to the nation’s peace. Matawalle is carrying out his duties legitimately and with full Presidential backing,” Yusuf said.
The group called on the DSS and NIS to arrest Senator Kabiru Marafa and Alhaji Shinkafi, and to seize their passports pending investigation for allegedly undermining national security.
The Forum praised President Bola Tinubu for what it described as strategic confidence in Matawalle, citing his role in recent rescue operations, including the recovery of kidnapped schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
Yusuf further applauded the military and security agencies for their ongoing successes, while urging northern leaders to close ranks.
“The North must unite, confront its challenges, and seize every opportunity for peace and development,” he said.
