The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State on Tuesday produced a new set of state executives through consensus at its State Congress, with the newly elected chairman, Alhaji Haruna S. Adiya, promising inclusive leadership and loyalty to party ideals.

The congress, supervised by a committee from the party’s national headquarters as well as officials of Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), adopted a voice vote to affirm the consensus list in line with the party’s constitution.

Adiya emerged as State Chairman, succeeding Isa Sadiq Achida.
In his acceptance speech shortly after his affirmation, Adiya expressed gratitude to party leaders and delegates for the confidence reposed in him.

“Alhamdulillah. I thank Almighty Allah for this opportunity. I thank all of you for your support and trust. May Allah grant us peace and success in this responsibility,” he said.

He pledged to work for the unity and progress of the party across the state, stressing that his leadership would be open and people-oriented.

“We will do what is right for our party and for the people. By the grace of Allah, we will carry everyone along and strengthen the APC in Sokoto,” Adiya assured.

The outgoing chairman, Achida, in his remarks, appreciated party members for their cooperation during his tenure and commended the governor for what he described as unprecedented service and accessibility to citizens, irrespective of status.

Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Professor Mukhtar Aliyu Musa, explained that the committee was empowered under the party’s constitution to conduct the exercise and confirmed that stakeholders had agreed on consensus to promote cohesion.

Other executives elected include Alhaji Yahya Buhari as Deputy State Chairman, Barrister Bello Abdullahi as State Secretary, and Abubakar S. Wada as Assistant State Secretary.

A motion for the adoption of the consensus list was moved by Hon. Abubakar Yabo and seconded by Hon. Aminu Gidado before delegates unanimously affirmed it.

The peaceful conduct of the congress was seen by party leaders as a strong signal of unity ahead of future political engagements in Sokoto State.
