Families of police officers who died in the line of duty in Sokoto State received a major boost on Thursday, as the Sokoto State Police Command disbursed cheques totalling over ₦33.9 million to eight beneficiaries.
The presentation, held as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Week, brought a mix of solemn reflection and renewed hope to grieving families, while underscoring the Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, described the occasion as both emotional and symbolic.
“This moment is both solemn and significant. It reflects the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the welfare of its personnel and the families they leave behind,” he said.
He stressed that the sacrifices made by fallen officers would never be forgotten, assuring that the Force would continue to stand by their loved ones.
“These officers paid the ultimate price in service to our nation. Their sacrifices remain invaluable, and we will continue to support their families in every way possible,” Shaffa added.
A total sum of ₦33,989,615.15 was presented during the event, which marked the climax of the week-long Police Week activities in Sokoto ahead of the national grand finale in Abuja.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Gadi Talatu expressed deep appreciation to the police authorities for the gesture, noting that the support would make a meaningful difference in their lives.
“We are sincerely grateful to the Inspector-General of Police and the Sokoto State Police Command. This support will go a long way in helping our families, and we pray for continued strength and success for the Force,” she said.
The Police Command also urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds, reaffirming its ongoing commitment to the welfare of officers and their families.
The event served as a poignant reminder of the risks undertaken daily by security personnel—and the enduring responsibility to care for those they leave behind.
