Matthew Hassan Kukah has been installed as Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, marking a significant moment at the institution’s 16th convocation ceremony held Saturday at its Igbariam campus.
The installation was performed by Chukwuma Charles Soludo, who described Kukah’s appointment as a major gain for both the university and Anambra State.
“His moral authority, experience and national standing make him well-suited to guide this institution to greater heights,” Soludo said.
Kukah, presiding over the conferment of degrees across various levels, used his inaugural address to push for higher academic standards and a stronger value system within the university.
“Universities must not only produce graduates but shape minds and character. We must strengthen our standards and reposition this institution for relevance and excellence,” he said.
The event attracted a broad mix of dignitaries, scholars and families, celebrating graduating students while ushering in a new leadership phase for the university.
Backed by members of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Kukah pledged a collaborative approach to advancing the institution’s vision.
“I am committed to working with all stakeholders to build a university defined by integrity, scholarship and service,” he added.
The ceremony underscored both achievement and transition, as COOU turns a new page under Kukah’s chancellorship with a clear focus on reform and institutional growth.
