Ethiopian Airlines say the black box of the crashed Boeing 737 MAX-8 jet that killed all 157 people on board has been recovered.

In a statement issued on Monday, Ethiopian Airlines said two devices, the cockpit voice recorder and the digital flight data recorder, were recovered from the crash site.

“The Digital Flight Data Recorder(DFDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder(CVR) of ET302 have been Recovered,” said Ethiopian Airlines.

With the devices, investigators and experts can put together the last moments of the flight; taking record of details from the aircraft’s sensors. This could also help explain why the new plane crashed.

The flight, heading to Nairobi, had just taken off from the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa on Sunday morning when it reported technical problems and asked for permission to turn back.

The plane crashed six minutes after take off. The two Nigerians aboard the ill-fated flight were Pius Adesanmi, Canada-based professor of Literary Arts, Carleton university, and Biodun Bashua, a former UN and African Union (AU) deputy joint special representative in Darfur, Sudan.
