Muhammadu-Buhari

Many book makers did predict that the outcome of last Saturday election in Ekiti would go a long way to determine the outcome of the 2019 general elections. The prediction was based on the fear that hell would let loose on the fountain of knowledge, which is the pride of Ekiti. But the predictors have failed.

Indeed there was need to be apprehensive of what would happen in Ekiti based on the media war from the two major political gladiators in the state. While the outgoing governor under the banner of the ruling party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, pride himself as the rock that could not be crushed, the opposition that later won the election also told those who cared to listen that a stone crusher in the person of the immediate past minister of Solid Minerals, Kayode Fayemi with his experience at the ministry knows what it takes to crush any stubborn stone.

Some cynics even feared that Ekiti would be turned into a war theater days before, on, and after the July 14th polls. But as usual with human predictions, all permutation about Armageddon on Ekiti fell like a pack of cards.  The streets of Ekiti refused to be bath with the blood of hyenas and baboons, but God intervened and even the book makers were jolted out of their crystal ball gazing that indeed God’s hands were involved in the Ekiti polls. And so shall it be in 2019.

This brings me to reflect that human predictions are fallible and not dependable. Some months back, we were told that Nigeria would reach the quarter final stage, courtesy of a clone pig or whatever pig it was. And the rest is a sour story as Nigeria did not even get out of the first round. Again Croatia was touted to win the world cup, again by another permutation that a debutant team would win after 20 years of such feat, and again France won. Man proposes but God disposes and woe betides a man that puts his trust in any man.

What I am so certain about is that contrary to expectations that Nigeria will boil before and during the 2019 election I am so convinced in my spirit mind that nothing, not even blood bath would be recorded, God is involved in the affairs of Nigeria and Nigerians.

Back to our discussion, many are expecting mayhem between now and elections days next year, but I have good news for Nigerians. The elections would come and go as many that had been held before now, and nothing would happen as the finger of God would be seen. God indeed loves Nigeria. The prayers of many today is that anyone who takes pleasure in shedding blood because of a temporary quest for a political office, would give his blood for it. Those who are sponsoring killings under whatever guise, without fearing judgment day of God, would certainly pay for it here and even hereafter.

The expectation of many is that prison walls await Fayose, many even are suggesting that he would be so humiliated that he would prefer death than to go through the embarrassment of power that be that are awaiting him after leaving government house, Ekiti.

But to Buhari, power belongs to God and He gives it to whomsoever He wishes. Certainly, Buhari would be under pressure to revenge the insults heaped on him and his family by Fayose. But he should be like our Lord and Saviour and rather ask for forgiveness for His prosecutors. Instead of paying back Fayose for his running mouth, Buhari should be the statesman he is and ignore Fayose and receive accolades for doing that not only from everyone, but from both his lovers and his political enemies, and God would favour him the more.

We are told Fulani don’t forgive, but I know some Fulani friends of mine that have rubbished this notion to nothingness. Aliyu Yahaya a family friend, a colleague, and full blooded Fulani from Adamawa state and Aliyu Othman from Saminaka, Kaduna state, are friends that I know who don’t hold grudges nor pay back.

Buhari has once said that he had suffered in the military more than he could ever imagined, not to talk of the political shame he had gone through, remembering of course while shedding tears for Nigeria promised never to contest again. But when it was the time for God to anoint him, the coast was cleared and errors of Goodluck Jonathan gave the change mantra a breath and here he is today not only the President of Nigeria, but President of the most powerful black nation on earth. And surprisingly too, he is seeking a second term, only God could have been magnanimous to him to this point, he should therefore not play god. Even when kitchen cabinet members are prodding him to deal with Fayose, he has the power and capability to do so, no doubt about this, but he should hand over to God, and he will see what God will do on his behalf.

There are many people surrounding Buhari today who may be urging him to do what in his sober reflection would gladly say no to. He should ask God to enable him listen to his inner self. Not that they love him or for the love of the nation but for their continued survival in the corridors of power. They are ready to die to continue to maintain their hold on the reins of power; they can say so many enticing things to him and about him, but when he fails, they would be the first to come out to say they had warned him, but because of his known stubbornness he refused to heed their words of wisdom.

Jonathan is the most recent person he could learn this from. Most of those around Buhari, the Comptroller of Custom, Col Hammed Ali rtd said this much recently, were at one time or the other with past governments but today they are calling past leaders all sorts of names and also ensuring by their words and deed the failure of the present administration.

There are many people in political history he can learn from, those who listened to their inner voice and took a retreat, and history is kind to them today, so also he could follow others who pushed them into believing that without him, Nigeria would crumble. It is not true, only God holds that quality. May Buhari do what history will be kind to him. I am just thinking aloud.
