The leadership of the Oil and Gas Service Providers Association of Nigeria OGSPAN paid a courtesy visit to the Group Vice President, Oil and Gas, Dangote Refinery, Engr. Devakumar Edwin, responsible for refinery, fertizer, petrochemicals and upstream businesses at the Dangote Refinery complex on Thursday, 10th October 2025.

During the meeting, the President of OGSPAN, Comrade Mazi Colman Obasi, congratulated the management and staff of Dangote Refinery for the successful commencement of operations and their resilience in overcoming various economic and operational challenges posed by vampires within the oil and gas value chain.

Comrade Obasi emphasized that the establishment and success of the Dangote Refinery represent a significant sustainable milestone in Nigeria’s quest for energy independence and economic stability. He assured that OGSPAN remains committed to partnering with the refinery in advocacy and public enlightenment efforts aimed at educating Nigerians on the immense benefits of Dangote Refinery for local refining to the national economic growth, industrialisatoon, job creation, and foreign exchange stability.

He noted, “OGSPAN will not stand idly by and watch individuals or groups operating under the guise of unions attempt to undermine the operations of the first privately-owned indigenous refinery, which today stands as a symbol of national pride and industrial revolution.”

In his response, Engr. Edwin, Group Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Refinery, expressed appreciation for OGSPAN’s visit and solidarity. He highlighted the positive impact of the refinery’s operations on the Nigerian economy, particularly in stabilizing the foreign exchange market.

According to him, “In my 35 years of experience in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, this is the first time I am witnessing such a drastic reduction in exchange rate pressures, largely due to the reduction in the importation of petroleum products. However, it is unfortunate that some individuals still prefer a return to import dependency.”

Engr. Edwin further expressed readiness for strategic collaboration with OGSPAN, especially in the area of advocacy, public sensitization, and stakeholder engagement, to deepen public understanding of the refinery’s contributions to national development and to counter misinformation from detractors.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both organizations agreeing to strengthen cooperation in promoting local content, transparency, and professionalism within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
