Nigerians reeling under the yoke of hardships occasioned by rising costs of goods and services since the land borders were closed by the federal government would heave a sigh of relief soon as the federal government may have concluded arrangements to reopen Nigerian land borders.

Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, made the disclosure Wednesday, when she spoke with journalists after the weekly federal executive meeting held in Abuja.

According to her government may reopen the land borders soon.

The minister explained that a  committee was on its final stages of work and would soon submit its report to President Buhari. Subsequently, a formal pronouncement would be made on the matter.

It would be recalled that in October 2019, President  Buhari ordered the closure of land borders to check smuggling of goods, arms and ammunition into the country after a partial closure of the Seme Border in August 2019.

Speaking to The New Narrative online newspaper, Daniel Cletus, a trader in Wuse market, Abuja, said it was a welcome development. The trader said the government should hasten up and reopen the borders and save the citizens from further hardships and suffering.
