President Bola Tinubu has directed immediate resumption of oil exploration in in Ogoni land.
Towards this, he had ordered Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), to commence engagements with the NNNPL, Ogoni communities as well as other stakeholders for the resumption of oil production in Ogoni land.
Tinubu gave the order while receiving the report of the Presidential Committee on the Ogoni Consultations, chaired by Prof. Don Baridam, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt.
Oil exploration in Ogoniland was stopped in 1993 following widespread crisis over environmental degradation.
The crisis also led to the execution of the leaders of Ogoniland led by Ken Saro-Wiwa and others by the federal government under Gen. Sani Abacha.
While receiving the report, Tinubu commended the committee for its good work and the people of Ogoni to embrace reconciliation and dialogue.
He conferred posthumous national honours of Commander of the Order of Niger (CON) on four Ogoni leaders.
