Renowned insurance scholar and practitioner Dr. Henry Ationu, has canvassed for increased participation of women in the provision and consumption of financial services in the country with a view to deepen Insurance penetration and financial inclusion in Nigeria.

Dr. Ationu, who is the founder and promoter of Heat Finance and Investments Ltd (owners of HEATMONEY), and president of the UNILAG Actuarial Science and Insurance Class of 1989 Alumni  Association, stated this in Lagos at a press briefing during the symposium and Award ceremony organised  by the association, in honour of a member of the Alumni Prof. Sunday Adekunle Aduloju, who was elevated to the position of Professor of Insurance and Risk Management, University of Lagos.

He listed other factors that would help promote financial inclusion to include; Regulation, Technology, and Financial Literacy.

The key paper at the event titled: Insurance and Financial Inclusion: Developing Insurance Products for the informal sector, was presented by renowned Dr. Biodun Adedipe.

The symposium had attendance drawn from the Insurance and Financial services industry, and the academia.

Notable insurance and financial experts who attended the event includes; the DG of NIA Mrs Yetunde Ilori, the president of CIIN Mr. Edwin Igbiti, the deputy President of NCRIB Mr. Tunde Oguntade, MD/CEO of Sunu Insurance Mr. Sammy Ogbodu.

Others from the academia include; Dean Faculty of Management Sciences Prof. Emmanuel Oyatoye, HOD Actuarial Science & Insurance Dept Prof. Hamadu Dallah, Prof. Rasheed Ojikutu, Prof. Iyiegbuniwe, and the coordinator of UNILAG Business School Dr. Folake Olowokudejo amongst others.

Dr. Ationu, stated that one of the objectives of the Association is to assist promote and develop the practice of Insurance and Risk Management in Nigeria.
