A custom officer at Kamba border in Kebbi state has shot dead a man suspected to be a smuggler following altercation between him and the officers on duty at border post.
It was learnt that the incident happened on Tuesday at Kamba border, in Dandi Local Government Area of the state following a misunderstanding involving custom officers and the suspected smuggler.
The suspcted smuggler, Abdul-Rahman Sani, a son of the village head of Budi, Alhaji Sani Muhammad of Bunza Local Government Area, was said to have died as a result of the gun shot.
It was also gathered that the incident led to a  chaotic protests by irate youths in Bunza Local Government Area.
Speaking on the incident, the former Secretary General of Bunza Development Association, Alhaji Sahabi Chindo, confirmed that the incident saying, the deceased was killed after the customs officers  intercepted the vehicles of some youth from Bunza, who were alleged to have been carrying some smuggled items.
“The customs officers had intercepted the vehicle of the decease and some of his boys.
“It was in the process of resolving their misundestanding, the situation went out of hand and the suspected smuggler was killed after one of the customs shot him.”
“This was what led to the protests in Bunza. The deceased was generous and popular among the youth.”
 Confirming the incident, the Nigetia Custom Service Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Federal Operation Unit Zone B Kaduna zonal Office, ASC, Mailafiya Magaji, said he was yet to be fully briefed on the incident.
