It was a sad end for a final year female student of the Imo State University (IMSU), Blessing Amam, as she was found dead alongside her lover, identified simply as Emeka in her hostel in Umudagu -Mbieri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state .

The late Amam The New Narrative newspaper gathered was a final year student in the Department of Theatre Arts, who was expected commence her finals examinations as part of activities leading to her graduation in August.

According to a neighbor who spoke to newsmen on the condition of anonymity said that she slept in her hostel room with her lover on Sunday but both of them could not wake up the next day being Monday.

The neighbor told a crowd including journalists that it was the odor from the deceased room that alerted other occupants who had returned from school on that Monday that something was wrong.

The next door neighbor who is also a female said, “When we came back from school, we started inhaling very offensive smell which made us to look for where such an offensive odor was coming from and it was discovered that it was from Amam’s room.

She said, “Her flat mates called her but she did not respond which made them to force the door open only for us to see Blessing and her lover dead, there were blood stains and marks on their bodies and blood clots on their mouths and nostrils”.

The source wondered over the circumstances that could have led to the death of the supposed lovers, stressing that the deceased were full of life the night before as there was no indication that they were in any trouble the previous night .

When The New Narrative visited the hostel, nobody including the security guards was seen, as the whole compound including the street was deserted probably for the fear of being arrested by the police.

When contacted the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Mr. Andrew Enwerem, confirmed the incident saying that, “It was a case of sudden and unnatural death”.

Enwerem however, said that the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Dasuki Galandanchi, had ordered an investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of the lovers.

He said, “It is confirmed that it is a case of sudden and unnatural death, the CP has called for a thorough investigation into the matter, when we received the information, our men at Mbieri division were ordered to go to the scene of the incident”.

“The necessary information that aid investigation process has been collected but we call on the members of the public that have pieces of information that will help us unravel the circumstances that led to the death to please come forward”.

The Director of Information, IMSU Students Union Government (SUG), Mr Desmond Joseph, also confirmed the ugly incident saying, “Blessing was a 400 level student of our University, of the Department of Theatre Art, she was found dead alongside her boyfriend”.

Joseph said, “Their bodies were discovered because of the offensive smell that perturbed neighbours who traced the source, they broke the door to discover Blessing and her boyfriend dead, with stains of blood from their mouths, nose and other parts of their bodies”.
