The Osun State Police Command announced the arrest of two armed robbers operating within the Osogbo metropolis. The suspects, Adesina Hammed, 29, and Oyeladun Iyanu, 28, along with two accomplices who remain at large, were apprehended following a robbery incident on June 5th.
According to a statement by the police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, the gang, armed with cutlasses, accosted two men around 7:30 pm in the Olaiya area of Osogbo. The robbers, using a motorcycle, forced their victims, who were also on a motorcycle, to a Point of Sale (POS) operator where they extorted N400,000. Additionally, the suspects stole an iPhone 13 from the victims, which they later sold for N140,000 in Osogbo.
Opalola detailed the circumstances of the arrest, stating, “Upon reports and complaints from the general public through various media such as petitions and social media platforms, the Osun State Police Command has been able to apprehend Adesina Hammed and Oyeladun Iyanu, who have been terrorizing the city of Osogbo.”
Following a tip-off, a team of anti-cultism squad members arrested the two suspects, while efforts are ongoing to capture the remaining gang members.
In a related development, the police also arrested Yusuf Adamu, a Kebbi State indigene, caught with a stolen electricity cable. Adamu was apprehended by police operatives from the ‘B’ Division in Ede after being spotted with the cable late at night on June 2nd. He has since admitted to the theft.
Opalola emphasized the police’s commitment to combating crime in the state, stating that operatives have been given a mandate to arrest all suspects linked to these crimes.
