Police operatives in Yobe have arrested a 22-year-old housewife, Zainab Isa, for allegedly stabbing her husband to death in Damaturu, the state capital. The incident occurred following a heated argument at their residence in Abbari ward.
The spokesman for the Yobe State Police Command, Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the tragic event in a statement on Wednesday. According to Abdulkarim, the suspect, Zainab Isa, reportedly stabbed her husband, Ibrahim Yahaya, 25, with a knife during the altercation, resulting in fatal injuries.
“The command is saddened by the unfortunate actions of a couple that led to the death of a promising young man due to the consequences of an abusive marriage,” Abdulkarim expressed.
The police received a complaint from a neighbor around 10:00 am on June 26, 2024, reporting the incident that had escalated from an argument around 9:00 am. By the time law enforcement arrived at the scene, Ibrahim Yahaya had succumbed to his injuries.
In her defense, Zainab Isa claimed that she acted in self-defense during a physical altercation with her husband, who had allegedly been abusive. She mentioned that she was still recovering from a recent medical operation following childbirth, adding complexity to the tragic situation.
