Internationally acclaimed musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has initiated legal proceedings against Sophia Momodu, the mother of his first child, Imade, seeking custody or, alternatively, unrestricted access to his daughter.
Legal Motion Filed In a motion filed at the Lagos State High Court by his legal team, Davido requests joint custody of Imade Adeleke. The motion, dated April 17, 2024, also includes an alternative plea for unfettered access to his daughter. The case, identified as LD/1587PMC/2024, lists Davido as the applicant and Sophia Momodu as the sole respondent.
Davido’s Affidavit Davido’s 44-paragraph affidavit details his extensive financial support for Imade, emphasizing his role in her education, accommodation, and overall well-being. He has been responsible for Imade’s school fees and rented accommodation for Momodu and their daughter. He also purchased a N200 million apartment in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, which Momodu declined, preferring instead a rented facility costing N5 million annually.
Provisions for Imade Davido further outlined his provisions for Imade, which include a Range Rover SUV, later supplemented with a Highlander SUV and N5.8 million for repairs. Additionally, he covers living expenses, nanny fees, healthcare, insurance, and international travel costs for Imade. Despite these efforts, he claims Momodu has made unreasonable demands, such as a lump sum of $19,600 for nanny fees.
Past Conflicts The affidavit also touches on past conflicts, including a 2021 incident where Sophia expressed distress over Imade bearing Davido’s surname instead of hers. This reflects ongoing tensions between the parents, which Davido cites as detrimental to his relationship with his daughter.
Seeking Resolution The legal action underscores Davido’s commitment to playing an active role in Imade’s life, advocating for either joint custody or unrestricted access. As the case unfolds, it highlights the complexities and emotional challenges of co-parenting amidst strained relationships.
